Incoming Class of 2009 Participating in Navigating Rensselaer and Beyond Aug. 21-28
Throughout the week, incoming students are participating in "Navigating Rensselaer and Beyond," a variety of adventure-based experiences, historical and cultural activities, and community service opportunities to introduce them to each other, the campus, and the surrounding community. Events scheduled for the week of Aug. 21-28 include:

• President Shirley Ann Jackson personally greeting members of the Class of 2009 at the
Approach on 8th Street, on Friday, Aug. 26 from 3-4:30 p.m.

• The annual Welcome Festival, a free, community celebration for the new students, along with administration, faculty, staff, and the community, on Friday, Aug. 26, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in downtown Troy at the Riverfront Park.

• The First-Year Freshman Olympics, on Saturday, Aug. 27, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
The event features interactive games and competitions.

• The First-Year Convocation, on Sunday, Aug. 28 at the '86 Field from 6:30-7:30 p.m. The ceremony, hosted by the Office of University Events, is the official welcome of the incoming class to Rensselaer. The event will feature guest speaker Karthik Bala '97, president of Vicarious Visions. The Rensselaer community is invited to attend and welcome the incoming students.

Farewell Reception for Frances Bronet Aug. 24
Dean Alan Balfour invites the campus community to join the School of Architecture in celebration of Frances Bronet's service to Rensselaer, the School of Architecture, and the Troy community as she leaves to join the University of Oregon as dean of architecture and allied arts. A reception will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 24, at 3:30-5 p.m. in the Greene Gallery, on the second floor of the Greene Building. 8/8/05

Community Service Fair Aug. 31
Students are invited to meet and talk with representatives from local community service organizations about volunteer opportunities while attending Rensselaer. The community service fair will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 31 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Rensselaer Union. The fair is hosted by the Office of the First-Year Experience (FYE), which offers a variety of programming for the entire campus to become citizens in the larger community. Rensselaer Union Hosts Activities Fair To Showcase Student Clubs and Organizations Sept. 1
Students are invited to learn about campus clubs and organizations at the Activities Fair on Thursday, Sept. 1 from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Houston Field House. The program is hosted by the Rensselaer Union to showcase Union-funded student clubs and organizations. Rensselaer has 160 clubs — including sports, multicultural, performing and visual arts, media organizations, and others. Pilot Red Hawk Shuttle and CDTA Bus Service Program
The CDTA 86 bus will include stops at Colonie Apartments, the east campus residence halls, the Houston Field House, West Lot, CII Low Bay, Academy Hall, College Avenue Parking Garage (after 4 p.m. it will stop at Folsom Library), Java++ and the Rensselaer Union.

This bus route will run as follows:

Monday - Thursday: 7:15 a.m. - 12:20 a.m.
Friday: 7:15 a.m. - 4:00 a.m.
Saturday: 5:45 p.m. - 4:00 a.m.
Sunday: 2:45 p.m. - 10:53 p.m.

Save the Date: Presidential Lecture Sept. 15
The campus community is invited to a Presidential Lecture by Samuel Palmisano, chairman of the board and chief executive officer of the IBM Corporation, on Thursday, Sept. 15, in the Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies Auditorium. Palmisano will receive an honorary doctorate in humane letters from Rensselaer at 3:30 p.m., followed by the Presidential Lecture, titled "Innovation and Leadership in the 21st Century." A reception will follow at 4:30 p.m. 8/8/05

Let's Go Red! Golf Tourney Sept. 19
The Rensselaer "Let's Go Red!" Booster club will hold its annual golf outing/member drive on Monday, Sept. 19, at the Edison Club in Rexford. Cost of the event is $150 per golfer. The price includes a gift, continental breakfast, greens fees, cart, and a post-golf barbecue. There also are opportunities for sponsorships.
