| RAA Fellows Award:
James Collins '77
James Collins ’77 will be recognized
with the Rensselaer Alumni Association (RAA) Fellows Award
from the School of Architecture on Monday, April 28, when
Collins visits campus for the School of Architecture Advisory
Council activities. Collins received a bachelor’s
in building science from Rensselaer in 1977, a bachelor’s
of architecture degree in 1978, and a master’s in
management in 1978, all from Rensselaer.
Collins
is president and CEO of Payette Associates. Founded in 1932
as Markus & Nocka, with an emphasis on the design of
health-care facilities, the firm was renamed Payette Associates
in 1974 and enlarged its practice to include work for colleges
and universities, schools of medicine and health, and corporations.
Collins joined Payette in 1979, becoming partner in 1984.
In 1998, he was named president of the firm.
Collins is a member of the American Institute
of Architects and a member of the Boston Society of Architects.
At Rensselaer, he is a member of the School of Architecture
Advisory Board and a member of the Experimental Media and
Performing Arts Center External Advisors Committee. He is
also the creator of the Payette Associates Fellowship in
the School of Architecture.
The RAA Fellows Award was created in the
fall of 1987 to honor those alumni or non-alumni of Rensselaer
who, by their achievements in a chosen profession or endeavor
or by their service to the Institute, have set an example
for Rensselaer men and women to emulate. To date, 113 RAA
Fellows Awards have been presented.
