Around Campus

Strictly Limited Access to College Avenue Due to Construction (Please note change in date for Public Information Meeting below.)

Replacement of the College Avenue water main will begin April 23. During this period there will be very limited access. Upper College Avenue will continue to have no parking. Lower College Avenue will be closed except to residents and to resident parking lots. Emergency vehicles, construction vehicles, and major truck deliveries will be allowed through work zones.

Cars will need to follow detours and flagman instructions. Courier deliveries will need to enter at alternate campus entrances on Sage Avenue and 8th Street. There will be restricted access to the Service Gate B and the Academy Hall Parking Lot. Excavation will begin near 62 College Ave and move east to 15th Street by April 30. At that time the city is scheduled to start making house connections, with 24-hour notification to homeowners. That work should finish within two weeks. Lower College Avenue waterline work will occur within the same schedule. Around April 30, McCarthy will begin to install new sidewalks and curbs, streetlights, and catch basins along the north and south sides of College Avenue.

Further information and updates will be available at the Public Information Meeting held at the Heffner Alumni House Wednesday, April 30 at 5:30 p.m. 4/21/03

Senior Class Gift Campaign Challenges Union College

The Class of 2003 is participating in a fund-raising challenge with its counterparts at Union College. The goal of the campaign is the highest class participation. Rensselaer is striving for 25 percent class participation or 325 seniors. Gifts may be paid over a two-year period.

The senior class gift campaign is seeking to raise money for the Rensselaer Annual Fund, which helps to support student activities, research and innovation, scholarship, and entrepreneurship.

“This is just one way that the Class of 2003 can show its support for the groundbreaking changes happening at Rensselaer,” said Rick Hartt ’70, director of the Rensselaer Union. “The objective of this program is to show seniors the impact that philanthropy has had on them, as well as to give them the opportunity to carry on the tradition of supporting their alma mater.”
