The rankings are available at www.usnews.com.
This is the first year that U.S. News
& World Report has ranked doctoral programs in applied
mathematics separately from mathematics.
"It is always nice when your department
is ranked equal to Harvard and better than such notable
institutions as Duke, Columbia, and Yale," said Mark
Holmes, chair and professor mathematical sciences.
"The department has improved significantly
over the last few years. It is our intention that the next
time U.S. News & World Report issues the survey
we will rank even higher," Holmes said.
