According to Provost Bud Peterson, the new
assistant provost position is "focused on establishing
'entrepreneurship across the program,' a key element of
the Rensselaer Plan. Entrepreneurship goes beyond the classroom
experience for the students it is part of the overall
Rensselaer experience," Peterson said.
"Entrepreneurship is the modern-day
embodiment of Rensselaer's founding mission of 'applying
science to the common purposes of life,'" said Michael
Wacholder, director of the Rensselaer Technology Park and
chair of the search committee. "These positions are
key to helping enhance Rensselaer's distinction with respect
to technological entrepreneurship education, scholarship,
and practice."
The assistant provost for entrepreneurship
education will be charged with developing a culture that
integrates and supports the continuum of technological entrepreneurship;
fostering educational programs and promoting cross-school
research in entrepreneurship; developing curricular and
extracurricular activities; and working with the leaders
of Rensselaer's entrepreneurship programs to bring the practice
of entrepreneurship into the experience of the Rensselaer
community.
The director of the Severino Center will
be charged with directing the center's many outstanding
programs and developing new ones; increasing awareness of
entrepreneurship and encouraging entrepreneurial activities
throughout Rensselaer; and promoting research focused on
entrepreneurship, particularly technological entrepreneurship.
The director will serve as a liaison to Rensselaer's alumni;
