 Ruth
Simmons (Honorary Doctorate of Engineering) is the 18th president
of Brown University and holds appointments as professor in the Department
of Comparative Literature and the Department of Africana Studies.
She served as president of Smith College from 1995 to 2001, during
which time the college established the first engineering program at
a woman's college.

Tito '64 (Honorary Doctorate of Engineering) is a successful entrepreneur
who recently received international recognition as the first tourist
aboard the International Space Station. Tito is the founder and chief
executive of Wilshire Associates, one of the largest investment management
consulting firms in the U.S. In 1974, Tito developed the Wilshire
Total Market Index (The Wilshire 5000), which Federal Reserve officials
cite as a barometer of the U.S. economy.
Commencement
2002 marks the return of graduation ceremonies to the Rensselaer
campus. The ceremony will begin at 9:30 a.m. on the Harkness Field.
Festive Celebration Picnics immediately following the ceremony will
