Robison
Field Dedication
The campus community is invited to attend the dedication of the
Doris B. Robison Field on Friday, April 20, at 2:30 p.m. The field
is located at the corner of 15th Street and Bouton Road. In case
of inclement weather the dedication will be held inside the Armory.

Schumacher
Park Dedication
The campus community is invited to join in the dedication of Schumacher
Park, located behind Walker Laboratory, on Friday April 20. The
park honors the memory of John Schumacher '66, former professor
and chair of science and technology studies, who died in 1999
after a long struggle with cancer. Known for his unbounded willingness
to devote time and thought to students, colleagues, and friends,
Schumacher was a beloved presence on campus.The dedication will
be outside beginning at 3:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served
4-5 p.m. in the School of Humanities & Social Sciences Dean's
Lounge, located on the fifth floor of Russell Sage Laboratory.

Nominations
Sought for Pillars of Rensselaer Award
Nominations for the 2001 Pillars of Rensselaer Award, the highest
honor bestowed upon employees of the Institute, are now being
accepted. The deadline for nominations is April 27. The Pillars
of Rensselaer Award is presented annually to a staff member who
demonstrates understanding of the Institute's mission and history,
has been a role model for other employees, showed concern for
students and their welfare, added to the human dimension of the
school, and who has played an active role in his or her home community.
The nominee must be employed in a staff role for at least 10 years.
The
award was establish in 1993 by Carl Westerdahl, former dean of
students and director of alumni relations, to honor a long-term
staff member.

Hold
the Date: Annual Service Recognition and Retirement Dinner
The annual employee service recognition and retirement dinner
will be held Friday, June 15, at the Desmond Hotel and Conference
Center in Albany. Employees, who will complete service with Rensselaer
in five-year increments by June 30, 2001, will be honored at this
event along with employees who have retired during the current
fiscal year. Invitations will be issued in May. Contact Human

Holiday
Schedule for 2001-2002
Rensselaer offers 10 employee holidays per fiscal year (July 1
through June 30). Nine paid holidays and one additional floating
holiday have been designated for the 2001-2002 fiscal year. A
floating holiday may be used at each employee's discretion, with
supervisory approval.

Call
for Volunteers
Volunteers are needed to participate in Rensselaer's Third Annual
Community Service Day, which will be held Wednesday, April 18.
The
Community Service Day Committee is planning clean-up projects
in the Troy parks near the Rensselaer campus, including Frear
Park, the Poestenkill Gorge, Prospect Park, Beman Park, and Oakwood
Cemetery. Projects also will take place along the city's riverfront,
and the Troy Public Library.
T-shirts, food, and transportation will be provided. A Web site
will be available and volunteers will be able to sign up online
on the RPInfo page by April 6. For more information, contact Cynthia

Shadow
Sculptures of Rensselaer Arts Professor Larry Kagan on Display
at New York City Gallery
Larry
Kagan, professor of arts, will show off his elaborate shadow sculptures
at the O.K. Harris gallery in New York City. The exhibit, titled,
"Substance and Shadow," will be on display through April
28.
Kagan, also associate dean of undergraduate programs in the School
of Humanities and Social Sciences, specializes in light as a drawing
medium. His "sculptures," which seem to be derived from
nothing more than tangled metal, are cast by meticulously maneuvered
structures of steel. 4/2/01
Kodak
Distinguished Lecture in Materials Science and Engineering Slated
The Materials Science and Engineering Department presents the
second annual Kodak Distinguished Lecture in Materials Science
and Engineering on Thursday, April 12, 4-5 p.m., 4050 CII. A reception
will immediately following in the Low Lounge.
Catherine
Bréchignac, research director at the Laboratoire Aimé
Cotton, CNRS, Université Paris-Sud, will present a talk
titled "Assembled Clusters, A New Way Toward Nano-Materials."
Bréchignac will discuss how the interplay between cluster
mobility and cluster coalescence strongly affects the formation
of the resulting nano-objects. She will focus on silver and antimony
cluster deposition on graphite. 4/2/01

Staff Day
The annual Support Staff Day event will be held Wednesday, April
25, 2001, for nonexempt secretarial and clerical staff. Invitations
for these staff members will be issued in April to supervisors
for distribution. The event will include a luncheon at the Russell
Sage Dining Hall followed by a brief program. For more information,

If you are a regular permanent employee of Rensselaer, you can
take advantage of AutoRenew to renew your campus parking permit.
If you choose AutoRenew you will no longer have to resubmit your
parking application annually. Online registration is also available.
