Keith Nelson, chair and professor of electric power engineering,
has been selected by the IEEE Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation
Society to give the prestigious Hans Tropper Memorial Lecture
at the 14th International Conference on Dielectric Liquids, July
7-12, 2002, in Graz, Austria. Nelson was recognized for his major
contributions in the field of liquid dielectrics. 4/9/01

Fransson and Frank Jenkins, clinical associate professors
in the Lally School of Management and Technology at Rensselaer
at Hartford, have been named the recipients of the 2000 McGraw-Hill/Irwin
Annual Advances in Business Cases Best Case Award. 4/9/01

Watt, professor and chair of language, literature, and communication,
will conduct a presentation at the School of Journalism at Fu
Dan University, Shanghai, China. Watt will lecture on the principles,
operation, and economics of new communication media, focusing
on the World Wide Web and its impact on interpersonal, social,
and political communication, and its potential for social science

Systems, became chair of the Industrial Science and Technology
Section of the American Association for the Advancement of Science

J. Foley '74, clinical associate professor of decision sciences
and engineering systems, was elected board treasurer of The Eddy
of Northeast Health. 3/26/01
Kenneth
Jansen, assistant professor of mechanical engineering, aeronautical
engineering, and mechanics, is the recipient of The R.H. Gallagher
Young Investigator Award from the U.S. Association for Computational
Mechanics. He was honored "for pioneering stabilized finite
element methods in turbulence based on Reynolds averaged and multiscale
models for large eddy simulation." The R.H. Gallagher Young
Investigator Award recognizes outstanding accomplishments, particularly
outstanding published papers, by researchers of 40 years or younger.
Jansen will receive a silver medal, a cash award of $1,500, and
a plaque. 3/26/01
Kathleen
Ruiz, assistant professor of electronic arts, was invited
to Germany to participate in a panel to discuss "Alternative
Gaming Paradigms: Redefining Design, Theory, and Gaming for Online
Games." The panel was part of the Web3D 2001 Symposium, which
showcased cutting-edge Web 3-D technology from around the world.
The symposium was held at the Heinz Nixdorf Museums Form, the
world's largest computer museum, in Paderbourne, Germany. 3/26/01

A. Wallace '61, professor of decision sciences and engineering
systems, was re-elected to a three-year term, as member of the
Board of Governors of the IEEE Engineering Management Society.
