Alan Cutler, professor of chemistry and chemical biology, has received a $50,000 Cottrell College Science Award from Research Corporation for his research on acetic acid synthesis catalysis.

Achille Messac, professor of mechanical, aerospace, and nuclear engineering, recently co-wrote a paper with his doctoral student Anoop Mullur titled "Extended Radial Basis Functions: More Flexible and Effective Metamodeling" that won the Best Student Paper Competition at the 10th AIAA/ISSMO Symposium on Multidisciplinary Analysis and Optimization, held in Albany, N.Y. The papers were judged by a panel comprising industry, academe, and government experts.

Anoop Mullur, a graduate student in mechanical engineering, was awarded a plaque from the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and a $1,000 cash prize underwritten by GE.

James Moore, professor of chemistry and chemical biology, has been elected vice chair of the American Chemical Society’s Polymer Division. During the third year of his term, Moore will serve as chair of the Polymer Division.

Scott Richards, director of environmental and site services, has received the "Heart of the Heart Walk Award" from the American Heart Association. Richards has volunteered for the Capital Region Heart Walk for the past eight years.
