Michael Shur, Patricia W. and C. Sheldon Roberts Professor in Solid State Electronics, has been reappointed as chair of the IEEE Prize Papers/Scholarships Award Committee 2004-2005.

Sixty-nine Rensselaer student-athletes were named to the 2004 Liberty League Fall All-Academic Team. Student-athletes must have at least sophomore athletic and academic standing with a minimum grade point average of 3.20 to be selected.  The fall sports include men's and women's cross country, field hockey, football, men's golf, men's and women's soccer, and women's tennis.  A complete list of the student-athletes who were honored is available at http://www.rpi.edu/dept/athletics/news/academic102104.html

James Tien '66, the Yamada Corporation Professor and chair of decision sciences and engineering systems, received the IEEE Systems, Man and Cybernetics Society Norbert Wiener Award for significant contributions to research in systems, human factors and cybernetics, according to IEEE. Norbert Wiener is the originator of the field of cybernetics, the study of communication and control processes in biological, mechanical, and electronic systems. This is one of the highest individual honors conveyed by the IEEE-SMC Society.
