* The work of 50 Rensselaer students and faculty was presented in 26 research presentations and undergraduate and graduate poster sessions at the 229th American Chemical Society National Meeting in San Diego, Calif., March 13-17. The following departments and centers were represented: Chemistry and Chemical Biology; Chemical and Biological Engineering; Materials Science and Engineering; Mathematical Sciences; Nanotechnology Center; NYS Center for Polymer Synthesis; Physics, Applied Physics, and Astronomy.

Michael Shur, the Patricia W. and C. Sheldon Roberts '48 Chaired Professor in Solid State Electronics, has been named honorary chair for the 6th IEEE International Caribbean Conference on Devices, Circuits and Systems to be held April 26-28, 2006, on the Mayan Riviera.

Janette Kim, adjunct architecture professor, and colleague Chloe Town have won an international design competition for the National AIDS Memorial in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. Titled "Living Memorial," the design is a charred wooden boardwalk and field of blackened rods, described as "a stark landscape evocative of devastation and the promise of renewal," in the announcement of the selection. The design was selected from more than 200 entries, and was recognized at a reception at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art April 1. For information, go to www.aidsmemorial.org.

Liberty League Indoor Track & Field award winners have been announced and include three members of the Rensselaer community. Senior Trevor Tersmette, an aeronautical engineering and mechanical engineering dual major, has been selected as the Men's Field Performer of the Year. Sophomore Jennifer Dias, a biomedical engineering major, has been selected as the Women's Track Performer of the Year. Colin Tory and his staff have been honored as the Men's Coaching Staff of the Year after leading the men's team to victory at both the Liberty League Championship and the New York State Championship. Included on Tory's staff are Trevor Bayliss (hurdles), Joseph Dombrowski, John "Doc" Hudson (throws), Don Paretta (pole vault), Amanda Pollock (distance), and Dick Stevens (mid/distance).
