  • Rensselaer’s new Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies ranks among the world’s most advanced research facilities focused on the application of engineering and the physical and information sciences to the life sciences.

  • The new W.M. Keck Laboratory for Terahertz Science and Technology was recently added to the Center for Terahertz Research.

  • The Lighting Research Center has developed strategic partnerships with component and system manufacturers, electric utilities, government agencies, and academia to help advance state-of-the-art solid-state technology.

  • The David M. Darrin Fresh Water Institute (DFWI) provides Rensselaer students and faculty, as well as visiting scientists, the opportunity to study a number of ecosystems at locations on Lake George, Adirondack Lakes, the Hudson River, the campus, and at a remote monitoring station.

  • A 10,000 square-foot Class 100 clean room, one of the largest university clean rooms in the country, provides a world-class facility for advanced research in micro- and nano-fabrication.

  • The George M. Low Center for Industrial Innovation (CII) hosts major interdisciplinary research centers, including microelectronics, scientific computation, and automation systems.

  • Rensselaer has broken ground for construction of the Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center (EMPAC). The concept for the $140 million center stems from the conviction that education must occur in an environment that nurtures diversity of thought and experiences. It will enable students to study at the nexus of research, technology, and the performing arts where they will discover new opportunities for creativity that are available nowhere else under a single roof.
