10th AIAA/ISSMO Multidisciplinary Analysis and Optimization Conference, Aug. 30 - Sept. 2
To mark the 20th anniversary of the biennial Multidisciplinary Analysis and Optimization (MA&O) international conference, which brings together industry, government, and academe to present and discuss the latest in MA&O technology, this conference will take a retrospective and prospective look at MA&O, and allow for a solid assessment of the state of the art. The conference, which is chaired by Prof. Achille Messac, professor of mechanical, aeronautical, and nuclear engineering at Rensselaer, will be held at the Albany Crowne Plaza Hotel, in Albany, N.Y.

National Innovation Initiative Regional Summit, co-sponsored by the Council on Competitiveness and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Sept. 7-8
Rensselaer will host a regional summit called “The Innovation Continuum” on strategies to enhance innovation and to improve U.S. competitiveness. Best practices that are identified during the summit will be submitted to the Council on Competitiveness for inclusion in a report.

“Biological Discoveries that Will Change the World,” a Biotechnology Symposium sponsored by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Sept. 9
Researchers and academicians from throughout the United States will gather at the new Rensselaer Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies to discuss discovery at the intersection of the biosciences and bioengineering. Participants will include Shirley Ann Jackson, Ph.D., president of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute; Shirley Tilghman, president and professor of molecular biology at Princeton University; Robert S. Langer, Sc.D., the Kenneth J. Germeshausen Professor of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; Troy Duster, Ph.D., professor of sociology, New York University, and Chancellor’s Professor, the University of California, Berkeley; Jonathan Dordick, the Howard P. Pan-American Conference of Traffic and Transportation Engineering (PANAM XIII), Sept. 26-29
Hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, the event is being held for the first time in the United States, at the Albany Crowne Plaza Hotel, in Albany, N.Y. This event is endorsed by the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE).

PANAM is the premier transportation conference in Latin America. Held biannually since its inception in 1980, this important conference is regularly attended by several hundred transportation researchers, senior decision makers, and transportation professionals, including present and past Transportation Ministers from nearly all countries in the Americas. Participation in PANAM XIII enables researchers to make contact with key North, Central and South American researchers and decision makers, and develop formal links of exchange of ideas and collaboration with transportation professionals from the Americas.

Third International Symposium on Beamed Energy Propulsion (ISBEP 3), Oct. 11-14

Advanced Workshop on “Frontiers in Electronics” (WOFE), Dec. 18-22
The aim of this workshop is to bring together leading scientists and engineers who work at the frontiers of electronic devices and circuits, yet emerging from traditionally separated fields with different professional backgrounds. The conference chair is Michael Shur, the Patricia W. and C. Sheldon Roberts Professor of Solid State Electronics at Rensselaer. It will be held at the Wyndham Aruba Beach Resort.
