As of January 7, 2008, Rensselaer is joining over 830 institutions and facilities from around the world in using the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) Program for training in the Protection of Human Subjects in Research. The CITI Human Subjects Research Education Program is a web-based program that consists of training modules for Biomedical Researchers and modules for Social-Behavioral Researchers, each focused on a different aspect of bio-ethics and human subjects research. CITI certification for all members of a research team is required and must be documented on the IRB proposal application. Active certification status is set for three (3) years.
Researchers should visit www.citiprogram.org to register for a user name and password. Once the required modules have been completed, the grade book should be checked to ensure that all modules have been completed. Users should complete the confirmation form and submit. The Office of Research at Rensselaer will receive from CITI an electronic notification of completion; however, users should print and keep the completion report in case verification is needed. For complete instructions on using the CITI program, click here.
Any questions regarding IRB training requirements or the use of the CITI Program should be directed to Kim Cardillo in the Office of Research (cardik@rpi.edu or 276-4873).
