Dmitri Zagorevski
Director, Proteomics Core Facility
Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
Education:
Ph.D., Chemistry, Institute of Organo-Element Compounds, Academy of Sciences of the USSR
M.Sc., Chemistry, Moscow State University
Career Highlights:
Dmitri Zagorevski graduated from Moscow State University in 1973. After his graduation he worked as a research scientist at the Institute of Organo-Element Compounds of The Academy of Sciences of the USSR, where he obtained his Ph.D. (1981) in the field of mass spectrometry of organometallic compounds. In 1983 Dr. Zagorevski became a supervisor of the Mass Spectrometry group at the same Institute, which provided mass spectrometry services and conducted studies in the gas phase ion chemistry.
As a result of the International Scientific Exchange Award, NSERC (Canada) he joined the research group of Prof. J. Holmes at the University of Ottawa in Ontario. By using neutralization-reionization mass spectrometry and other tandem mass spectrometry techniques Dr. Zagorevski generated and characterized some important organic and organometallic molecules and radicals in the gas phase.
In 1997 Dmitri took a position of mass spectrometrist at the University of Missouri-Columbia and he was responsible for the mass spectrometry services at this University. In 2001 he joined RPI as the Director of the Mass Spectrometry Facility where he is currently. He has developed methods of mass spectral analysis for various classes of organic compounds (proteins, polymers, carbohydrated, oligonucleotides, organometallics, etc.), and has taught several mass spectrometry courses. He was a recipient of several awards aimed at the purchasing and upgrading mass spectrometry equipment.
Dr. Zagorevski is the author of many original publications and reference works in various fields of mass spectrometry.
Research Areas:
Gas-phase ion chemistry.
Development of mass spectrometry methods of analyses of variety of compounds.
Elucidation of structures of molecules and gas-phase ions.
