Stephen A. Barre ’60, received a B.S. in electrical engineering from Rensselaer and an MBA from Harvard in 1962.
Since 1984, he has been president and CEO of Servo Corporation of America, a high-technology manufacturer of radio navigation systems for airports, infrared electro-optical devices for space satellites, and railroad applications. He served as group vice president of The BOC Group from 1981-1984 and executive vice president and COO of the Systems Research Laboratories from 1965-1981.
Barre was an active student while at Rensselaer as commander of the Air Force ROTC Cadet Wing; he was vice president of Eta Kappa Nu, the electrical engineering society; a member of Tau Beta Pi, the engineering honorary society; manager of the Glee Club; a member of the Student Christian Association, and the Council of Club Presidents, among others. He has continued his volunteer activities as an alumnus, serving as chairman of the Patroons, the Rensselaer Fund, and the Manhattan Leadership Gift Committee, as well as a member of the Rensselaer Council, the Rensselaer Alumni Association Board of Trustees, and the National Alumni Division of the New Century Campaign. He received the Rensselaer Alumni Association's Alumni Key Award in 1987, the Albert Fox Demers Medal in 1996, and was elected a fellow of the Rensselaer Alumni Association in 2000. He is a member of Palmer C. Ricketts Society of Patroons of Rensselaer.
