06/04/09: Rensselaer Chief Investment Officer Named Chair of State Common Retirement Fund Committee
Walé Adeosun, chief investment officer of Rensselaer, has been named chair of the New York State Common Retirement Fund’s (CRF) Investment Advisory Committee (IAC) by New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. The committee will review CRF investment strategies and provide investment advice and technical assistance to the Comptroller.

And at a time when even the newly elected president can’t be separated from his wireless device, two undergraduates from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute have developed an open source solution that combines smart personal financial management with your smartphone.
01/23/09: Freshman Applications Surge Past 12,000 for First Time in History
More than 12,000 high school students have filed applications to attend Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, according to numbers released today by Rensselaer Admissions. Applications are still being counted, but the current record total represents a growth of more than 117 percent since 2005, when the Institute received just over 5,500 applications.

09/23/08: Economist’s Model Forecasted Economic Slowdown One Year In Advance
An economist at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute says that a model he developed forecasted the current economic slowdown at least one year before it became apparent to most observers. The model, which was first published in the Journal of Finance in June 1991, has successfully predicted every recession since 1955.
09/19/08: Faculty Join International Experts To Discuss the Financial Crisis
On Sept. 19, a delegation from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute joined internationally recognized scholars, regulators, and financial market practitioners from Europe, Asia, and the United States to discuss the challenges stemming from the nation’s financial innovations of the past two decades during the Sixth Annual Colloquium on Derivatives, Risk-Return, and Subprime held in Lucca, Italy.
