Darrell Mockus ’94 Creates Unique Retail Enterprise
Darrell Mockus is co-founder and chief technical officer of Utique, a company that designs and builds next-generation automated retail machines capable of dispensing a wide variety of merchandise, including high-end beauty products, stylish gadgets and gifts, and gourmet chocolate.
Utique machines communicate in real time with a centralized application where they can be managed and monitored 24 hours a day. The goal of Utique is to redefine how retail works by integrating its automated stores with e-commerce and mobile to create a complete retail experience all while driving a new level of efficiency to retail.
The company was named the 2011 North America Best New Airport Retail Concept by Airports Council International, and a recent McKinsey report on retail listed Utique “a company to watch” for retail innovation.
Utique is in the process of deploying nationwide with machines already in many major metropolitan areas including New York, Atlanta, Las Vegas, Miami/Fort Lauderdale, Minneapolis, and San Francisco, in addition to an online store.
