Greetings to the members of the Class of ’62. In anticipation of your 50th Reunion, the 50 Year Club board hopes to see you at the 50 Year Club Lunch and Class of 1962 Induction Ceremony on Friday, Oct. 5, when current 50 Year Club members will welcome you into their ranks. All alumni who graduated 50 years ago or more automatically become general members of the club, so we wanted to tell you a bit about the 50 Year Club.

The 50 Year Club is an active and vital part of the Institute’s community, and we hope you will take pride in your membership. After the Reunion you will receive information about becoming an active lifetime member. There already are over 700 lifetime members whose support partially subsidizes our events, such as the induction ceremony; a transfer student reception each fall; the 50 Year Club community service prizes awarded each year to current Red & White students who exemplify exceptional community service, both at Rensselaer and in the broader community; and the 50 Year Club display case in the Alumni Lounge of the Rensselaer Union, which is a project we are involved with each year. Be sure to visit the display case if you come to campus, as it will contain Class of ’62 memorabilia from your days as RPI students—see the information below on how you can help!

The 50 Year Club publicly honors the newest class to join their ranks each year in a beautiful display case in the Rensselaer Union lobby. The display informs current and prospective students, as well as other visitors, about the campus during their era. The Class of ’62 will be honored this year, and we invite you to share your college memories! The display contains various artifacts from the 50th Reunion class. The club has received many favorable comments on previous displays.

We need your assistance to continue the success of this project! Here’s how you can help: Find the vintage Rensselaer memorabilia you’ve been saving all these years; sort through those Institute treasures; and let us know what you have. We’ll review your material for possible inclusion and also share it with the Rensselaer Archives staff. The Archives staff may be able to use some items to complete elements of the Institute’s historic collections. You will receive further information about how to donate or loan these materials to RPI. — Bud Hovey ’52
