Attention all 50 Year Club Members (that means you, if you graduated in 1960 or earlier!). Reunion 2011 is coming October 21 – 23, 2011. We hope to see as many of you as possible at the 50 Year Club annual luncheon meeting and induction of the Class of 1961.

In the last issue of Rensselaer we told you about becoming an “active” member for a one-time dues payment of $50. You can make your checks out to the RPI 50 Year Club and send them to Robert DeSio, Treasurer, 25 Collins Terrace, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.

We need a minimum of 60 active members from each class if we are going to continue our Student Community Activity Awards, the 50th Reunion Display Case, and other activities. We need you in the Classes of 1958, 1959, and 1960 to help us reach our goal, and especially you future members from the Class of 1961. The Class of 1952 had over 90 “active” members, a record that needs to be broken.

The following students from the Red & White Club, all from the Class of 2012, received our 2011 awards: Katie Alexandridis, Gold; Alex McGregor, Silver; and Andrew Stevens, Bronze. It is amazing the amount of time and effort the Red & Whites put into their volunteer activities while still maintaining excellent grades. During the awards luncheon, Juan Gonzalez ’49 gave us an inspiring talk about losing his class ring in 1959 in the waters off San Juan, Puerto Rico, and having someone find it in 2009 and track him down so it could be returned to him.

This year the Red & White Club volunteered to help keep the 50 Year Exhibit up-to-date. This exhibit, located in the north side of the Student Union, first started with artifacts from the Class of 1952; each year new material is added from the 50th Reunion Class.

The 50 Year Club sponsors the Florida mid-winter luncheon meetings (with the able help of the alumni office staff). We would love to hear from other enclaves of 50 Year Club members about the possibility of holding similar meetings in other parts of the country.
