Honorary Degree
Kenneth DeGhetto ’50 was awarded the honorary degree of doctor of science by the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), from which he graduated in 1943. A lieutenant with the U.S. Navy, he earned seven battle scars. After earning his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering at Rensselaer, he joined the Foster Wheeler Corp., where he rose to chairman of the board. DeGhetto is the recipient of the Davies Medal for Engineering Achievement, the Albert Fox Demers Medal, and the RAA Fellows Award, all from Rensselaer. He was named USMMA’s Alumnus of the Year in 1988.
