NASA Instrumental

Charles “Chip” Meegan ’66, a NASA astrophysicist, is principal investigator for the GLAST Burst Monitor, a space-based instrument for studying gamma ray bursts — the most powerful explosions in the universe. The monitor is part of an orbiting observatory scheduled to launch in May.


Fly Boys

Shane Dover ’96, left, was pleased to find that his fellow pilot on a recent flight at NASA’s Dryden Flight Research Center in California was Frank Batteas ’77. Dover is a former U.S. Navy pilot who recently left Continental Airlines to become an experimental research pilot at NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility (Goddard Space Flight Center) in Virginia. Batteas is a NASA flight test pilot. They flew together in the F/A-18B Hornet.
