Space
Remembered
...space is for everybody. It's not just for a few people in science or math, or for a select group of astronauts.
That's our new frontier out there, and it's everybody's business to know about space. - Christa McAuliffe,
December 6, 1985
What is LearningSpace...?
For astronauts, school plays a critical role in their success in space.

LearningSpace is a place to go to learn more about the human exploration and development of space.  The authors of LearningSpace, which include scientists and school teachers, have gathered information and numerous Internet links for teachers and students and all who desire to learn about space. For both classroom use and in home study, there are lessons dealing with many aspects of the human endeavor into space.

How to Navigate

The various sections of the LearningSpace web pages are accessible through the menu of links at the top of each page.  Additionally, the home "Space Week" web page is also available there. On the right side of the page are boxes of information, some of which are also links.  The links are underlined. If the link takes you out of the LearningSpace page and you want to return, use the "back" button at the top of the browser page to get back to this site.

Space Factoid
Typical space vehicles orbiting the earth like the Space Shuttle or the MIR Space Station, travel over the ground at over 17,000 miles per hour!  This is so fast, that they go all the way around the Earth, seeing a new sunrise every 90 minutes!

Space Week
The LearningSpace web pages attempt to provide focus on the educational aspects of the Space Week event being conducted at Rensselaer between April 5th and 11th of 1999.

Quotable Quotes
Why our space program? Why, indeed, did we trouble to look past the next mountain? Our prime obligation to
ourselves is to make the unknown known. We are on a journey to keep an appointment with whatever we are. -
Gene Roddenberry, Executive Producer of "Star Trek"
