The Space Week event, being conducted  April 5-11 1999 at Rensselaer's Field House will consist of a space-theme museum, operated in coordination with a comprehensive series of lectures and talks on issues related to space. 

The museum is designed to provide an educational and fun environment for Rensselaer students, organized school groups, and the general public.  Below is a list of the exhibits that are being planned for.
 
 

  Exhibit Description
  Planeterium A multimedia planetarium show offered by Rensselaer and the Troy Jr. Museum.
  Photo Props A 30' inflatable shuttle and an astronaut cutout will make a great spot for photos to remember your visit!
  George Low An interesting collection of mememtos, models, photos and
other items on loan from the family of George Low.  A broad perspective of the Apollo program and Rensselaer's history with space.
R1 Video Kiosks Stop by and watch one of many different programs on space exploration. Features will run continuously throughout museum hours.
R2 Crystals in Space 18 microgravity crystal growth experiments conducted over a 22 year period are described.
R3 IR Astronomy Astronomy with the Infrared Space Observatory.
R4 IR Demonstration A live infrared camera demonstration showing how infrared light can be used for useful things.
R5  Glovebox Experiment Ostrogorsky glovebox experiment.
R6  Flight Experiment Ostrogorsky flight experiment.
R7 Telescience The remote operation of experiments located in orbit.
R8 Dendrites in Space Space experiments on dendritic solidification of metals.
R9 Constrained Vapor Bubble HX An experimental heat exchange for use in spacecraft.
R10 Origins of Life Origins of Life.
R11 Microgravity NASA's microgravity research program with a drop tower microgravity simulator.
R12 Robot Arms An interactive demonstration of the Space Shuttle's remote manipulator (RMS) robot arm.

The Space Perspective poster display.
     
B1 Lunar Prospector Information and a model describing NASA's Lunar Prospector mission, currently underway above the moon.
B2 Moon Rocks Genuine and replica moon rocks displayed with associated background information.
B3 NASA JPL An exhibit offered by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
B4 Exploring the
Universe
Exploring the Universe display.
B5 Mars Mars display.
B6 Mars Rover Schenectady Planetarium and Museum.
     
G1 Shuttle Orbiter A 1/15 scale model (8') of a space shuttle orbiter with an associated display of background information.
G2 X-33 A scale model of the X-33 experiental lanuch vehicle, which will lead to the next generation of space shuttle.
G3 Shuttle Tire A space shuttle tire, displayed for comparison with more common tires.
G4 Shuttle Space Suit A replica of the Extravehicular Activity (EVA) suit used by shuttle astronauts.
G5 International Space Station Information about the International Space Station
G6 Scale Models Models of the International Space Station, an Apollo Saturn V, a Shuttle Orbiter, and other vehicles, all at the same scale for comparison.
G7 Space Station Experiments Information about some of the facilities that are being built aboard the Space Station to conduct experients. Includes Biological, Fluids, and Combustion.
G8 United Technologies / Pratt Whitney Displays of rocket motors used in powering many different kinds of rockets.
G9 Amazing Space The Space Telescope Science Institute display, Amazing Space.
G10 Large Scale Rockets Two large scale models (10',20') of a Saturn V moon rocket and a Mercury Redstone, which launched America's first astronauts into space.
     
Y1 Laser Lightcraft Cutting-edge technology for possible use in launching satellites through the use of lasers.
Y2 Plasma Sprayed
Coatings
NASA / RPI research on Plasma Sprayed Coatings.
Y3 Adaptive Aircraft
Control
NASA / RPI research on Adaptive Aircraft Control.
Y4 Lockheed Martin Lockheed Martin Technology Services Group exhibit.
Y5 Space Spinoffs Information on some of the many interesting "side uses" of technology that started out for use in space, but ended up in everyday life.
Y6 Skylab Spacesuit A spacesuit designed for use aboard the Apollo Skylab space station.
Y7 Food for Space What the astronauts eat while on a mission!
Y8 Boeing Boeing Corporation's exhibit.

 Space Fact
Buzz Aldrin wasn't the first to walk in space, but he is credited with solving many of the difficulties that earlier walkers had encountered in moving about and performing various tasks without gravity.  To do this, he utilized many special holds and tools designed specially for the tasks.
