Mission Patch Assignment

Every flight that enters space has a patch designed for it.  The patch is usually designed by a crew  member and has some significance for that particular flight.  Learn about an upcoming Shuttle mission, or the International Space Station, and design a patch that would be appropriate.  (Remember, patches are meant to symbolize something important about the mission.)  Most patches are no bigger than 5 inches in diameter, but they are not necessarily a circle.

Another possibility for this assignment is to think about your own class or school.  Think about what your class or school means to you.  For example, does your school reach out to the community in very helpful ways? Does it have a good sports program?  Maybe, your school scores best in the state in math and science.  Think about it, then, design a patch symbolizing what you are proud of about your class or school.

Check out some of the Apollo patches that were designed for the Apollo missions for examples.
