The Anticipated Fall 2012 Laptop Package

We expect to have complete details about the Fall 2012 Mobile Computing package available by about June 15, so please check this website from time to time for more information as it becomes available!

Although it's yet to be officially announced, we're currently hoping to include the next model of Lenovo's thin and lightweight ThinkPad laptop as part of the Fall 2012 Mobile Computing Package. But you don't just get a laptop when you participate in this program. We offer a fully supported complete package which includes all of the following:

  • The laptop, which includes an Intel Ivy Bridge i5 processor, 4GB RAM (one open slot), a 500 GB 7200 RPM hard drive, NVIDIA Optimus graphics, a backlit keyboard, USB2 and USB3 ports, a web camera, and many other features!
  • A specially designed laptop backpack carrying case........(a $59 value)
  • A 10-foot Ethernet cable........(a $10 value)
  • A security cable and lock........(a $7 value)
  • An iClicker classroom personal response unit........(a $32 value)
  • Microsoft Windows 7 Enterprise, which has an approximate $100 upgrade price from the Home Premium edition. Students who participate in the Mobile Computing Program are also entitled to free Windows OS and Office upgrades for as long as they're enrolled at Rensselaer!
  • Microsoft Office 2010 Professional, which has an approximate $150 upgrade price from the Office Home 2010 edition
  • Maplesoft Maple math software........(a $115 value)
  • Microsoft Visual Studio software........(a $119 value)
  • A forty-nine month manufacturer's warranty and protection against accidental damage, which may cost up to $399 for some laptops
  • Full on-campus consulting and Lenovo-certified repair services
  • A laptop loaner pool, which allows any student participating in the Mobile Computing Program to use an identical laptop system, free of charge, while their original machine is in the repair shop.

And as if all this isn't enough, because all Rensselaer students are required to have a laptop and this is an academic program, no 8% county sales tax is applied to the cost of the package, which means you're saving another $128! Quite literally, you're all set from the minute you take your new laptop out of the box.

So what's the bottom line?

While we're still working with Lenovo at this time to offer you the absolute best price for the Fall 2012 semester, we plan to offer this entire laptop package for no more than $1,599. We think that once you consider everything you get along with the laptop, you'll agree that this package is an excellent value!

Please keep an eye on this website for more information as it becomes available. An informational packet containing complete package details will also be mailed to your home in early July 2012.
