Acquiring A Laptop - Fall 2009
Third Year Students

(Note: If you leased a laptop in Fall 2007, you now own the laptop and are responsible for providing theft/loss insurance.)

As a third-year student, you have the following options:

  • You may purchase a Fall 2009 Mobile Computing Package.
  • You may lease a Fall 2009 Mobile Computing Package.

If you're a student who currently owns a T60 or T61 laptop and would like to purchase the 2009 Mobile Computing Package, please read about the trade-up opportunity that's available!

Purchasing the laptop

$1,825 will be charged to your student account at the beginning of the fall 2009 semester and you will be billed by Rensselaer.

If you choose this option, please complete and return the Laptop Purchase Request - Form A. (PDF file)

Leasing the laptop

Under the two-year lease-to-own option, your student account will be charged with four equal payments of $550 for a total of $2,200, which includes the entire laptop package and theft insurance. (Please read Form B, the two-year lease-to-own agreement, carefully for additional theft insurance details.)One payment will be charged to your student account at the beginning of the Fall 2009, Spring 2010, Fall 2010, and Spring 2011 semesters.

At the end of the Spring 2011 semester, you will own the laptop.

Whether you decide to purchase or lease the 2009 Mobile Computing Package, return the appropriate form by Monday, July 27 to:
