Dining Services 2007

Hospitality Services We are excited and ready to serve our students! Hospitality Services at Rensselaer, run by Sodexho Campus Services, is much more than dining services on campus. We provide hospitality to the Rensselaer Community. Some new innovations and concept changes for this school year are:

» Newly renovated for the Spring semester, The Lally Galley (formerly Pittsburgh Express Café) located in the Pittsburgh Building, provides a quick and convenient means of purchasing a beverage, snack item, soup, salad or sandwich. This cool, contemporary café has some comfortable seating and is indigenous to the west side of campus.

» As organic, local and sustainable products become increasingly in demand, our Executive Chef is working to provide/promote some of these products in our resident dining facilities. Be sure to look for identifiers and literature to identify these products.

» Our newly renovated Rathskeller provides the perfect setting to relax in style with comfortable lounge and booth seating and great formats such as pizza at Fire and Spice, Sub Connection, Grill 155 and specialty wraps at Cyberwraps.

» Our coolest venue on campus is our unique Java++ Coffeehouse. This venue is a “Friends” style coffeehouse with soft seating, a fireplace, wireless internet and a stylish décor and color scheme! Enjoy your specialty coffee drinks, fresh baked goods and express salads and sandwiches while listening to soft music or watching CNN on the large LCD TV.

» At the Commons Dining Hall we will be featuring Celebrity Chefs from local restaurants who will cook up specialty entrees such as Indian, Mexican and other ethnic foods including sushi!

» Made-to-order omelet stations at breakfast in dining halls

» We will continue to improve our Theme Cuisines exhibition style formats as well as our self-service Kosher, Halal and “Tofu Tim” vegan/vegetarian programs.

» We have partnered with Stoneyfield Farms to bring you a delicious and healthful breakfast smoothie program. Made with organic yogurt and fresh fruit, it's a great way to get a fast and nutritious morning meal. It's available daily at our Library and Sage Labs cafes.

» Take advantage of our newest deli concept at the McNeil Room in the Student Union. Forged from some of the greatest gourmet sandwiches imaginable, this deli was made with two in mind, bring your appetite!

» Designing a dining program for students has undertaken a new direction with Sodexho. The first of its kind, our newly created National Student Board of Directors employs students from universities across the nation to develop promotions, programs and menus for students by students. Our very own President of the Union is a member of this unique and exciting board and we look forward to seeing the direction it takes us in the future.

Remember, good communication is the lifeblood of our success here at RPI. We strongly encourage your sons and daughters to communicate their wants, needs and expectations to Hospitality Services. You may e-mail us at anytime or take advantage of our newly created culinary chat room by visiting our website at hospitalityservices.rpi.edu. We look forward to serving your student and invite you to visit our Hospitality Services cafeterias and retail locations whenever you are on campus.
