Advising and Learning Assistance Center…

Student studying outsideHappy New Year from the Advising and Learning Assistance Center! The Center sponsors many programs and services to assist students throughout their four years at Rensselaer. In the residence hall, there is a Learning Assistant (LA) who is an upper-class student assigned to each hall. The LAs run academic workshops and hold office hours for one-on-one consultation for first-year students to improve their time management and study skills. We also have a drop in tutoring program located in the Darrin Communication Center (DCC) from Sunday-Thursday night 7-9PM. Most of the first-year science, math and engineering courses have tutors available through out the week for students who want to maintain or improve their grade/understanding of the material. For historically difficult courses, we offer Supplemental Instruction where a graduate/upper-class student holds review sessions twice a week. The office has three professional counselors that meet with students to guide them through the semester. One is a Learning Specialist who focuses seeing students with special needs. For first-year students who are on probation, the Center coordinates the Faculty Intervention Program. The student is paired with a faculty or professional staff member to meet once a week to get the student back on track.

If you want more information about any of these programs, please visit our website http://j2ee.rpi.edu/alac or call our office 276-6269.
