Opening Doors. Linking Living and Learning

Faculty member and studentsResearch shows that the first three weeks of classes mark a period of turmoil for many of our first-year students. Most are away from home and sharing a room with a roommate for the first time while struggling with new academic and personal challenges.

On Tuesday, September 12th, faculty and staff volunteers will visit each residence hall and literally knock on every door. This program, titled "Opening Doors.Linking Living and Learning" is aimed at making sure that the students have made a smooth transition to the college environment on both a personal and academic level.

For the first-year students, the 12th is one week after "Meet your Advisor Day" and the faculty/staff visits will be a chance for the students to ask questions or seek guidance from a friendly resource. Naturally, all of the teams may not be able to answer some specific questions, but they are committed to finding the answer and getting back to the student prior to the end of the week.

Our ultimate hope is to strengthen the link between the academic campus and your student's education outside of the classroom and in the residence halls.
