Academic Support & Resources
The Advising and Learning Assistance Center coordinates programs designed to facilitate the academic transition from high school to college for first-year students. The following programs are available to our students:
» Learning Assistants (LAs): The LAs are upper-class students who reside in the residence halls to mentor first-year students. LAs provide workshops for students on time management, goal setting, study and test-taking skills, and relaxation techniques. They also have office hours for individual consultations.
» Supplemental Instruction (SI): Through SI, students review material and learn to study in groups for the most difficult courses taken in the first year. Traditionally SI is held for Introduction to Engineering Analysis, Calculus I, Physics I, and Chemical Principles for Engineers.
» Drop-In Tutoring: This program is available five nights a week for students wanting to maintain or improve their grades. There are graduate and undergraduate tutors available for most courses in the engineering and science curricula.
» Other Services available: These include advising undeclared and non-matriculated students, pre-health committee, as well as academic counseling and assistance. For more information, visit our Web site at http://j2ee.rpi.edu/alac or call us at (518) 276-6269.
