Student Health Center

The Student Health Center has been a busy hub of activity this summer preparing for an exciting and healthy new academic year. If you didn't have a chance to visit us in person, be sure to visit our website: studenthealth.rpi.edu.

The Student Health Center operates throughout campus, providing healthcare, information and support for all Rensselaer students.

Throughout the year, wellness programs are available to all students. We are out and about in all the Residence Halls; we work with athletes, ROTC and Greek Life. A sampling of the broad health initiatives offered to all students this semester includes:

On October 14, Family Weekend, the Student Health Center will again host an Open House with tours of our facility from 11 to 1, and a continuation of "Staying Connected" from 12 to 1 in Academy Hall Auditorium. See the Family Weekend schedule for details.

On October 24, the Student Health Center and Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity will sponsor a campus-wide alcohol and other drug program. Nationally recognized speakers Raphael Saler and Joe Bertolino will present From Campus Leader to Drug Dealer. Students will see how the "big man on campus" can end up in jail on drug charges only a few short years after college? Students will meet Raph Saler, former student leader and "All American fraternity boy" and his former advisor, Joe Bertolino, as they describe how Raph's weekend use of drugs spiraled out of control. Joe and Raph put vivid faces on the reality of drug use/abuse on campus, effectively dispelling the misperception that good students stay away from drugs.

On November 15, as part of our continuing efforts to reduce drinking and driving we will once again be Lighting the Tree of Life. The Tree of Life is an evergreen tree that is outside of the '87 gym - and is used as a symbol of life. The tree is lit with white lights as a symbol of hope. If a member of the community is injured or killed in a drinking or drugging incident then a white bulb is changed to red.

On November 17 our Annual Red Ribbon Campaign will be held at the home hockey game against Sacred Heart. Fans eagerly anticipate this initiative which provides free alcohol awareness material and gives each driver a red ribbon to be attached to their car antenna as a statement and reminder not to drink, drug and drive.

December 1 is the campus observation of World Aids Day. A panel of the NAMES Quilt will be on display at the Chapel + Cultural Center again this year.

Please encourage your students to attend these fall events. We look forward to seeing them there! Once again, we invite you and your students to visit our website; visit it often! We are here to help your student stay healthy! If you have any questions or need additional information, please call us at (518) 276-6287 or email healthcenter@rpi.edu.
