Community Service at Rensselaer
Participating in community service and volunteer initiatives provides intellectual, emotional and spiritual enrichment and growth for both the volunteer and the community being served.
At Rensselaer during 2005-2006, over 27,000 hours of service were reported for engaged clubs and organizations, fraternities and sororities, and individuals as volunteers and in Federal College Work Study positions. Over 600 pints of blood were collected as part of the monthly American Red Cross Blood Drives at the Mueller Center. Countless additional hours were spent in a number of student initiatives to fund raise over $175,000 for worthy causes including Hurricane Katrina and Pakistan Earthquake relief and the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. The Dean of Students Office is responsible for coordinating and reporting community service and volunteer activities for the Rensselaer community of students, faculty and staff, and the Financial Aid Office coordinates community service jobs funded through the Federal College Work Study program.
