Career Development Center
Greetings from the Rensselaer Career Development Center! We are happy to share some news from the CDC that will be of great value to your student this year. This fall, we are unveiling our brand new Sophomore Career Experience (SCE) program, which is a unique career exploration initiative designed for our sophomore students. Parents can visit our website to learn more about how students can register and participate. In addition, our premier job search tool, Redhawk Joblink, has witnessed some changes over the summer to enhance the student's ability to search and apply for full and part-time, co-op, and summer internship opportunities. We encourage all RPI students to register to use the new system and make an appointment with us to ensure maximum job search results.
Last spring, we welcomed over 135 companies to our spring career fairs, a record-breaking number! In addition, 88% of May 2006 graduating students reported full-time employment, graduate school, and military plans after graduation. The 2006-2007 academic year will prove an exciting time for the CDC as we introduce innovative programs for new and returning students, and anticipate another busy recruiting season! Get Ahead, Go Co-op!
Did you know that RPI offers a co-op program? Participating in the co-op program not only gives your son or daughter an opportunity to apply what they have learned in class, it can also give them a competitive edge when it comes to landing a permanent job. Co-ops at Rensselaer work in 20 different states, typically for a 7-8 month work block in their sophomore, junior or even senior year. The first-year is a great time to start planning for co-op, so we encourage students to meet with their academic advisor early to help them determine the best time to schedule a co-op experience.
You can learn more about the Cooperative Education Program by visiting the co-op site at: http://www.rpi.edu/dept/cdc/coop.html. In addition, there are several co-op procedures workshops (listed on the CDC website) held throughout the semester for students looking to gather more information about the program and steps on how to apply.
