International
Students
Transcripts
All international transcripts must
be recorded in English or officially translated to English.
Transcripts in the original language must accompany
all translated documents. Uncertified translations,
or translations by students, will not be accepted.
Final transcripts must be submitted
upon completion of all coursework. If a degree has been
completed, conferral must be noted on the transcript.
If transcripts of previous or current
study do not include the award of a degree, please include
a certified copy of the diploma or other official evidence
that the degree has been awarded.
TOEFL/IELTS Requirement
The TOEFL or IELTS is required of all
international applicants whose native language is not
English.
In lieu of the TOEFL, a student may
submit the International English Language Testing System
(IELTS). Only the academic format is acceptable and
a minimum score of 7.0 is required for all departments
and programs. Additional information about the test,
including test center locations and test administration
dates, is available at the IELTS
website.
- An Institute minimum TOEFL
score of 230 on the computer-based test (CBT),
88 on the internet-based test (iBT), or 570 on the
paper-based test (PBT) is required for admissions
consideration. Some departments have minimum TEOFL
scores higher than the Institute minimum. Please see
department
requirement for details. Remember to include Rensselaer's
institutional code of 2757 when requesting ETS test
scores. Departmental codes are not required.
Please note: Scores more than two
years old cannot be reported or verified by ETS. If
you took the TOEFL test more than two years from the
date of your intended enrollment, you must take the
test again in order to have your scores reported.
- Some departments may also require
the Test of Spoken English (TSE). Please refer to
our degree
listing for any specific department requirements.
- TOEFL/IELTS scores older than two
years are no longer available and will not be considered.
- The TOEFL/IELTS requirement may
be waived if the applicant is currently enrolled in
full-time studies in the United States and will have
completed two academic years of coursework in the
United States immediately prior to enrolling at Rensselaer.
- The TOEFL/IELTS requirement is waived
for non-native English-speaking applicants who have
received an undergraduate or graduate degree from
an institution where English is the language of instruction.
