Communication from POC:
Fall 2008 Registration Period 6/23-8/8/08 (Non-Degree-Seeking Students) – sent on 6/23/08
Dear Non-Matriculate Student:
The Fall 2008 online registration period will begin today, Monday, June 23, 2008 and end on Friday, August 8, 2008. As a non-matriculated student, you will not be able register yourself via the SIS. Instead, you will need to complete the attached registration form and fax to 518.276.8026. Upon receipt, I will be more than happy to register you as requested. Please make sure that you meet the pre-requisites, if any, for the courses that you intend on registering for. In addition, if you have any intentions of upgrading to degree status, you should do so before completing your fourth class. Only 12 credits can be guaranteed to be applied to your degree.
In order to matriculate, you will need to submit the following items:
- Complete application form
- Statement of background and goals
- GRE’s or GMAT's
- Current Resume
- 2 letters of recommendation
- Official transcripts for all undergraduate and graduate studies (if not provided previously)
To assist you with your course selection and registration, we have created a page on our website, http://www.ewp.rpi.edu that should provide you with pertinent semester-specific information.
You will find the following links particularly useful:
Fall 2008 Important Dates ~ http://www.rpi.edu/ewp/distance/academics/calendar_f08.html.
* Pay particular attention to the financial and academic drop deadlines.
Fall 2008 Course schedule ~ http://www.rpi.edu/ewp/distance/academics/schedule_f08.html.
* Here you will find the Fall 2008 course descriptions, delivery technologies employed, video catalogs, etc. Please note that the video catalogs provide you with a brief overview of your course and what the faculty expects of you.
Cohort Schedules ~ http://www.rpi.edu/ewp/distance/registration/index.html.
* Here you will find cohort schedules that degree-seeking students are adhering to. This should give you an idea of what courses a student in your cohort or program is taking.
You should also be aware of the following:
You can access the Library's website at http://library.rpi.edu/setup.do. As an off-campus user, you will need your Library PIN. Please go to http://library.rpi.edu/update.do?artcenterkey=204 to access information on obtaining your PIN. You will need this PIN to access the library databases, e-journals and e-books. Faculty who teach courses that originate from the Hartford's campus may utilize the Cole (Hartford) Library as their main source of articles, journals, etc. With that being said, it is always best to set up access to both sources. Access to the Folsom (Troy) Library can be done via the Library link provided above. Please go to http://www.ewp.rpi.edu/hartford/library/ to access the Cole Library. You will need your RH Network username as well as the password. Please go to http://www.ewp.rpi.edu/hartford/tis/forms/help.html and request your Network username and password. Be sure to include your RIN. Please note that not all faculty will utilize the Libraries, nor will all Hartford faculty utilize the Hartford Library.
Campus cohort students are expected to participate in 2-4 class sessions per course each semester. As a reminder, one of the required dates is the first day of class. Please be sure to check for your course(s) start date and begin making plans to attend the first lecture.
We have created a web page that will allow you to access mass communications and announcements that have been sent to your RPI email account. You can access the page at http://www.rpi.edu/ewp/distance/registration/comm_poc.html. Course-specific information will not be posted here. You will still need to access your courses’ websites regularly.
The 2007-2008 Rensselaer Academic Catalog is available online at http://catalog.rpi.edu. Please continue to check the site periodically for the 2008 – 2009 catalog which should be posted shortly. A hard copy of the catalog can be sent to you if you wish by submitting a request to Mecaila Smith at smithm12@rpi.edu.
Any change of address, phone, email address, etc. should be made by you, the student in SIS. We also require that you send a change of information notification email to Mecaila Smith at smithm12@rpi.edu as well.
If you are changing your site location from where you were previously, please notify me immediately. It is important that we have the new information as quickly as possible to ensure receipt of all course materials in a timely fashion. Failure to do so may result in material distribution/shipping delays.
If your exam liaison (not applicable to all students) has changed or if you need one, please be sure to contact our office as soon as possible.
Please be advised that you will not be able to register if there are any financial holds on your account. All financial issues and outstanding balances must be resolved with the Bursar’s Office as soon as possible so that you are able to register for the Fall. You can email the Registrar’s Office at registrar@rpi.edu to inquire about any additional (non-financial) holds that you may have.
Before the Fall semester begins, course information will be available on the RPI LMS. Please be sure to check your course site for delivery information, syllabus, course schedule and other relevant information. Please note that most distance courses follow a LIVE schedule for submission of assignments. Please check the Fall 2008 Course Schedule for participation format (synchronous/not synchronous).
Many of you have been receiving newsletters and notifications from the Career Development Center. As a Rensselaer student, an account will automatically be assigned to you and you will be included on the Career Development Center’s distribution list. Please go to http://www.rpi.edu/dept/cdc to access their website. Follow the links for Redhawk Joblink student log-in and follow the instructions to use your RIN as both your username and password for initial log-in. Under the header labeled “profile”, there is a privacy tab and that is where you would opt out of receiving any CDC notifications if you would prefer not to. Please note that you will not have access to their open job postings or on-campus recruiting activity unless you activate your account. There is a $5 fee associated with this service.
*We encourage all students to register as soon as possible so that they register for courses before the enrollment cap is met and so that the likelihood of a class being cancelled due to low enrollment is unlikely.
We hope that this registration period goes smoothly for you and we look forward to another semester working with you!
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Thanks,
Ronnie
* This communication was distributed on June 23, 2008. Please contact your Point of contact if you need any of the forms or documents mentioned.
