Electric
Power Engineering
The Department of Electric Power
Engineering has been an independent discipline at Rensselaer Polytechnic
Institute for almost thirty years. The department operates as
an autonomous entity within the School of Engineering with its
own faculty, staff and students. During that time it has gained
a national and international reputation for the quality of its
instructional and research programs. It has a strong focus on
preparation of engineers for professional practice, serving alike
the needs of the electric power industry, its manufacturers of
power equipment, consultants and all those who use a large amount
of electrical energy. The department interacts on an almost daily
basis with these constituencies. It is guided by an Advisory Committee
of experienced industrial leaders, and has close ties with several
societies within the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers
(IEEE), and the Institute of Electrical Engineers (IEE).
