Advanced
Concepts in Electronic and Optoelectronic Devices
Electrical, Computer and Systems
Engineering
Description
This course will discuss scaling and performance limits for conventional
electronic devices and integrated circuits and will review new
emerging transistors such as Ballistic Transistors, Hot Electron
Transistors, Resonant Tunneling Transistors, Plasma Wave Transistors,
and Single Electron Transistors. Also review optoelectronic devices,
including crystalline and amorphous solar cells, photoconductors,
Light Emitting Diodes, gas, solid state, and semiconductor lasers,
optical waveguides, optical fibers, Optoelectronic Integrated
Circuits, Cathode Ray Tubes, Liquid Crystal Displays, Plasma Displays,
and Field Emission Displays.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of semiconductor devices (at the introductory
undergraduate level). Basic computer skills (running standard
software packages like SPICE).
