Computing
A web browser such as Netscape or Internet Explorer, electronic mail access and presentation software (Power Point) are required. Course materials will be distributed through the web. In addition, students will need to access Rensselaer library resources through the Rensselaer server. Although no specific design tools are required, students will need to have access to appropriate tools for the design of text, graphics, and interactions in HCI designs. Students will need access to the Institute's library through the Rensselaer Computing System. E-mail and World Wide Web access required for course communications, use of Blackboard, and printing of course notes.
To facilitate synchronous interactivity a web conferencing tool called Elluminate Live! May be used. Sun Microsystems Java Web Start (free) or an open-source alternative (Open-JNLP)as well as a sound card with PC microphone and speakers (headset recommended) is needed to use Elluminate Live! (see http://www.elluminate.com/support).
E-mail access is required for course communications.
Access to Blackboard, Rensselaer's course management tool, is required. Please refer to this page for instructions on how to set up your computer for Blackboard.
