Description
This course is based on theoretical work in cognition and motor behavior and on applied research in computing, sports, and arts. This course analyzes how designers think about human performance systems. Support systems analyzed include online tutorials, wizards, agents, and Web-based systems.

Prerequisites
COMM-4750 Electronic User Interfaces or another LL&C 4000-level graphics or document design course; or graduate standing.

Computing
A Pentium or current Mac system or the equivalent is required. Students will be required to use Adobe Acrobat Reader, which is available free of charge from the website www.adobe.com, to download course material. It is recommended that students have access to a system that will allow them to prototype coaching systems on paper or electronically. Email and World Wide Web access required for course communications, use of Blackboard, and printing of course notes.
To facilitate synchronous interactivity a web conferencing tool called Elluminate Live! May be used. Sun Microsystems Java Web Start (free) or an open-source alternative (Open-JNLP) as well as a sound card with PC microphone and speakers (headset recommended) is needed to use Elluminate Live! (see http://www.elluminate.com/support).

E-mail access is required for course communications.

Access to Blackboard, Rensselaer's course management tool, is required. Please refer to this page for instructions on how to set up your computer for Blackboard.
