Facilities

The Upper Hudson Satellite Center will be located on 5 - 10 acres of waterfront property in south Troy at the confluence of the Poestenkill Creek with the Hudson River. The City of Troy owns 5.71 acres of waterfront property with the ability to purchase additional property as needed. The facility is envisioned as having approximately 15,000 useable sq. ft., with 10 laboratories and 2 classrooms. The facility will support scientific and engineering infrastructure for monitoring and experimentation on the river and in its local environment. The scientific infrastructure of the Center would include extensive instrumentation for monitoring river processes as well as information systems to support analysis and the dissemination of results.

There will be docking facilities, sufficient for the Rivers and Estuaries Center on the Hudson vessels from the Main Center in Beacon, as well as docking facilities for smaller research vessels. Thus, there will be direct access to the river.

Rensselaer would host the administrative activities of the Upper Hudson Satellite Center. In addition to management and operational responsibility, Rensselaer would provide supporting Computer and Information Services, Human Resources, Libraries and Information Service, Marketing and Media Relations, Purchasing, Contracts and Grants, and Graphic Services
