About Us

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, in partnership with the City of Troy, will establish, a Rivers and Estuaries Center on the Upper Hudson for Research, Education and Outreach which will be called the Upper Hudson Satellite Center. This Center in Troy will serve as a satellite facility for the main Rivers and Estuaries Center on the Hudson which is being designed and will be built on Denning’s Point in Beacon. The Upper Hudson Satellite Center will provide the focus for research, education, and public outreach in the upper Hudson region. Rensselaer, with its Darrin Fresh Water Institute, is the major institution of environmental research and education in the Upper Hudson Valley. The Rivers and Estuaries Center on the Hudson will link together major institutions and laboratories in the Hudson River Valley to form a scientific consortium with international import and vital economic significance to the region. The establishment of an Upper Hudson Satellite Center as a satellite of the Beacon Center will engage all appropriate academic institutions and other organizations located on the Upper Hudson River, in conjunction with other partner institutions and groups in the Mid and Lower Hudson. A collaborative, multidisciplinary approach to research and education, coupled with development of advanced instrumentation and information systems, will enable a broad contribution to the international scientific community as well as providing a direct benefit to New York State.
