Tutorial Step One: Using the Enlarger The following section contains step-by-step instructions for the operation of an enlarger. Get out the negative strip you wish to make a print from. Take the negative carrier out of the enlarger by using the negative carrier on the left of the enlarger. Put the negative into the negative carrier, shiny side up. Place the negative carrier back into the enlarger. Place the timer in "focus" mode. Get out your easel and place it on the enlarger's base. Adjust the enlarger up or down so that your frame fills the easel space. Use the focus knob to adjust the focus of the image projected onto the easel. Turn the timer off "focus" mode and be sure the enlarger is turned off. Get out one piece of printing paper. Open the easel and set the paper in it. Turn the timer "on" for a set amount of time.
