WHY ARE REPARATIONS IMPORTANT?
If a person burns down a house that you built with your time, resources and labor...
If that person's children prevented your children from voting for just laws that would cause the racial inequity to cease...
Don't you think that deserves SOME compensation?
There is a very SPECIFIC reason that a person does not apologize for his/her transgressions: FAULT.
If the fault is accepted, the next step (in business law, at any rate) would be the REMEDY (in our case reparations)
Wealth is a misused word in our society. There are people in this country who would like us all to believe that wealth is just a MONETARY thing. But it's not. There is a cultural responsibility that all Americans of African descent have to their children, and their children's children...
I liken this phenomena to a relay race. In our case it seems as if we've been held back until the last leg of the race, and then still expected to win the race.
If we let them convince us that reparations are a hand-out, they've won. The good news is that we have a "level playing field", the bad news is that all of the events are over.
