ACTIVITIES FAIR: August 29th
The Student Union sponsors an Activities Fair at the beginning of the year
to allow students
of the Rensselaer community to learn about the different clubs on campus.
BSA participates
in this fair to further reach the community.
UMOJA/UNIDAD PICNIC: August 30th
BSA coordinates and plans ,along with the other OMSA organizations, the
UMOJA/UNIDAD
picnic, held annually, to bring together all members of the Rensselaer
minority community.

MILLION YOUTH MARCH:September 5th in NYC
In September of 1998, there will be a youth march held in Harlem, NY.
BSA
is attempting to find out more information so that we may try and take
children from the Troy community.

BLACK AWARENESS WEEK: November 6th-13th
The purpose of Black Awareness Week is to provide a solid venue, in addition
to Black History Month,
through which programs involving our history and culture can be organized.
Some of the events that will be
taking place are a Libation ceremony, a Keynote speaker, an African
Dance Troupe and a
Night of Free expression (similar to an open-mic night.)

KWANZAA CELEBRATION, December
Kwanzaa is an African American holiday in celebration of the harvest in
Africa. Our recognition of
Kwanzaa includes a libation, feast and giving of gifts.

INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL
BSA has traditionally participated in Psi Beta Nu's annual International
Festival in which all
of the union cultural organizations gather in the union to exhibit
their heritage. During this time a short
show is usually given from each organization.

In the fall and spring BSA sponsors a party to be held in the RPI Union.
These parties attract people
from the surrounding schools and community.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH
During this month, BSA organizes the planning of events from each organization
as well as holding
many of our own. BSA organizes the advertising of events through
a Black History Month Poster, holds a
Fashion/Talent Show, and a Keynote speaker and sells Black History
Month T-Shirts.

MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. BIRTHDAY OBSERVANCE
BSA believes in the importance of the recognition and celebration of King
Day for all in Rensselaer's community.
Therefore, we are in the process of sponsoring an event such as a film,
vigil or educational workshop to honor his legacy.

AFRICAN DANCE CLASS
BSA is in the process of organizing an African Dance class to be held
weekly as a
way to spiritually and physically aid our membership and the RPI community.

GENERAL MEMBERS FORUM
In the fall of 1998, many of the BSA leaders will be graduating.
To facilitate continuity,
BSA will be holding a forum in which the graduates will inform the
membership of
past short-comings and pitfalls. This forum will be held to establish
a means for
underclassmen to see what has been going on in our community and how
far we have come.
