Rensselaer has opened the Curtis R. Priem Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center (EMPAC), a unique experimental center dedicated to the integrated pursuit of the performing arts and sciences. “EMPAC is an unprecedented platform for creativity and discovery, a world-class performing arts center and a high-tech research facility under one roof,” said Rensselaer President Shirley Ann Jackson.  Read more

Historic Rensselaer Capital Campaign Reaches Goal Nine Months Ahead of Schedule

Rensselaer announced that it has surpassed the $1.4 billion Renaissance at Rensselaer capital campaign goal. The announcement came nine months in advance of the campaign’s target end date of June 30, 2009, and just days before the opening of the new Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center (EMPAC).

Recent graduate Eben Bayer ’07 has been awarded €500,000 (over $700,000 USD) as winner of the Dutch Postcode Lottery’s PICNIC Green Challenge, an international competition to identify the most innovative product or service to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to a sustainable lifestyle.

“With his insulation material, Greensulate, Bayer shows the power of combining creativity, sustainability and entrepreneurship in the fight against climate change. This is what the PICNIC Green Challenge is all about,” Amsterdam’s Deputy Mayor Lodewijk Asscher said.
