Dear Members of the School of Science Community,

As many of you likely saw from Dr. Jackson's announcement to the broader Rensselaer community, I have accepted the position of President of Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in Massachusetts. I will not take up this role until July 1, so I will continue to advocate for advancing the School of Science in the coming months! I will also work closely with the President and Provost to ensure a smooth and well-managed transition as the Institute initiates the search for the next Dean of Science at Rensselaer. If I had the chance to help recruit that person, I would say that I have greatly enjoyed working closely with our faculty, students, alumni and staff to bring our aspirations to life. I hope WPI's community will be as engaged, thoughtful and supportive as all of you have been.

Thanks for the understanding and support I know you'll give to our Associate Deans, Department Heads and staff during the upcoming transition time. President Jackson and Provost Hajela have been very supportive of Science - I know that will continue and that Science at Rensselaer will accelerate on its upward trajectory.

For those who are interested, here's a link to WPI's website containing their news release:

Again, this isn't goodbye as yet - I'm here for the coming months. So we'll have lots more chances to talk, work and celebrate successes together. And I'm sure I'll be keeping in touch with many of you for years to come.

Very respectfully,
Laurie
