Since childhood I dreamed of becoming a scientist. During High School, I enrolled in all the AP science courses my school had to offer. Torn between my passion for chemistry and biology, I decided to go to college for biochemistry and biophysics. After visiting RPI and learning about their interdisciplinary research, I decided RPI was a great fit for me.
At first I was content with my major. It was not until I was in organic chemistry that I started to realize my passion for chemistry. While considering switching my major, I received an invitation to join the Accelerated BS/Ph.D. program. I knew it was the right choice for me. Doing research was something I always wanted to do and having the opportunity to fill this dream and receive my Ph.D. faster than normally possible was exactly what I wanted to do.
Once I started learning more about the different research projects taking place at RPI and was able to work in a few of the different areas, I realized chemistry was the right major for me. Now a junior at RPI, I am advised by Professor Gross. My current research involves synthesis of oligopeptides and the use of sophorolipids in applications such as biobased polymers.
