Preferred Suppliers

Procurement Services is the only Institute department authorized to solicit, negotiate and implement Master Agreements with suppliers. “Master Agreements” are umbrella contracts that govern all purchases from a particular supplier and have pre-negotiated Terms and Conditions. Master Agreements can be either Institute-wide or department-specific and are the products of various types of contracting strategies. Such strategies include competitive bidding, supplier-specific negotiation, or adoption of an approved consortium master agreement.

Suppliers with Master Agreements receive “Preferred Supplier” status and, in return, guarantee contractual pricing that provides the overall   "least total cost"   to the Institute for Rensselaer's most commonly ordered products and services.

There are a number of Rensselaer's Preferred Suppliers who are “SciQuest-enabled” . This means the supplier has the capability to provide a punch-out catalog or hosted catalog in the Rensselaer Marketplace . Orders placed through supplier product catalogs in the Rensselaer Marketplace do not require additional processing by Procurement Services. Whenever possible, Procurement Services seeks the opportunity to add Preferred Suppliers to the Rensselaer Marketplace.

Procurement Services administers strategic sourcing initiatives to identify the best contracting strategy to leverage the Institute's annual buying power   without imposing any restrictions on manufacturers or products required by faculty and staff.   However, to ensure that Procurement Services is able to maximize the value of every dollar of the Institute's funding, all faculty and staff are strongly encouraged to utilize Rensselaer Preferred Suppliers.

Other Marketplace Suppliers

Fisher Scientific, Krackeler Scientific, Life Technologies (formerly Invitrogen), and Sigma Aldrich are additional scientific suppliers who currently provide product catalogs in the Rensselaer Marketplace. These suppliers do not have current Master Agreements with Rensselaer. When items are not available through VWR Scientific, Rensselaer's Strategic Preferred Supplier of scientific equipment, products and supplies, orders may be placed through the punch-out catalogs of these other Marketplace Suppliers.

Certified Suppliers

“Certified Suppliers” are all active suppliers in Banner and OSCAR. These suppliers have completed Rensselaer's required vendor certification procedures and have pre-approved payment terms.

New Suppliers

When products and/or services are not available through Preferred Supplier or Certified Suppliers, a New Supplier request may be made through OSCAR to Procurement Services. Procurement Services shall determine whether a new supplier request is valid and, if so, will proceed with setting up the supplier in Banner and OSCAR for ordering.
