Community Outreach Programming (C.O.P.)
Actively and regularly interacting with Rensselaer’s Interfraternity Council (IFC), Office of Residence Life, and students themselves, RPI's Public Safety officers are involved, accessible, and approachable a way of working together that we call “Community Outreach Programming”.
We believe that fostering such a partnership with the Rensselaer community is another effective way to help us all deter crime and solve problems.
For an inside look at our philosophy and approach, please read “Community Policing: The Next Level” by Lt. J.A. Audino, Public Safety’s Community Outreach Programming Coordinator.
Both the Troy City Police Department and RPI Public Safety have been working closely together with various neighborhood committees in a serious and consistent attempt to improve relations between the university and the neighborhoods.
Rensselaer is also taking a major leadership role in neighborhood renewal projects and partnering with the people of the city and city government.
Public Safety's Community Outreach Programming has encompassed a broad range of activities and events with the Rensselaer community:
- Public Safety’s Sports Challenge Program
- Ice Skating Days at the Field House
- Music Jam Sessions in the Residence Halls
- Annual Clothe-A-Child Dinner
- Bowling and Billiards Nights
- Neighborhood Cleanup Days
- Joint Community Policing Patrols (RPI Public Safety and Troy P.D.)
- DWI Program (RPI Public Safety and Troy P.D.)
